Li-ion batteries can be charged FASTER: 5 times above current specifications due to new temperature sensor technology.
Current charging specifications are a safe estimate for the prevention of fire hazards. It was necessary to make this estimate, as it was not possible to measure the temperature in the battery itself, without affecting its specifications – until now:
Researchers at the University of Warwick developed a new sensor to charge the battery while it can still operate. Their technology has been tested in batteries of existing vehicles, revealing that batteries can be charged more than 5 times faster than what is currently common.
